Cycles Render Tests

E-mail

Of course I had to do some tests with the new Cycles render engine, too. I didn't intend to create photorealism, I just wanted to see how my "usual" animations would look like with Cycles.
Those files have been on my computer for some weeks now... Sorry for not posting them earlier. It's just that my time is very limited at moment.

First of all I think I should also mention, that the .blend File of the Energy Generator animation is now also available for download: Link

But now lets get to the Cycles tests: This is what happens, when you try to do my usual particle animations with Cycles (a fluid animation is also included):

Dim lights

Is it just me or is the youtube quality getting worse?
Anyway... You remember the Dispersion Effect I created with Blender? Well, this it what it could look like, when rendered with Cycles (+ more color samples, inculding violet + a higher refraction index):

The last experiment is a short animation loop in Stereo 3D using Blender Cycles and Flash (click on the thumbnail to get to the animation):

You will need red/cyan glasses to see the Stereo 3D effect.

Drawing stereo images by hand

E-mail

Some days ago I tried to draw a stereoscopic image by hand. I wouldn't consider it to be something special, but the technique I used might be interesting: Link

In order to view the image correctly, cross your eyes until both pictures overlap.

More Photographs

E-mail

I've been uploading quite a lot of photographs on deviantArt lately. I know my website has been mostly about Blender related things up until now. So I guess you don't expect me to post news about photographs all the time. Rest assured, I think not every of my photographs is worth to be mentioned in a news entry. However there are two new (slightly manipulated) photographs, which I think really deserve to be emphasized:

Wouldn't you agree?

The Contact Form has been removed

E-mail

A small update regarding my website: I removed the contact form from the main menu. You can still reach me directly using the E-Mail address in the impressum. The impressum can now be found in the drop down menu of the menu item "About" (it was previously a drop down of contact).

Why did I remove it? Roughly 90% of the mails that were send by the contact from, were spam mails.

Experimenting with HDR and Focus Stacking

E-mail

Recently I made a lot of photographs experimenting with HDR and focus stacking techniques. Considering, that I'm not very experienced in that area, I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome.

Those are some of my first HDR experiments. I simply walked around in our cellar and looked for random things to take pictures of. Each of the following pictures were composed out of 9 different exposure times:

The wood saw is my personal favorite of the pictures above.

I stumbled across this drain, we knocked in the ground some years ago. It is now a living biotope for all kinds of mole and strange red roots. Make sure to look at those pictures in full view. They have an incredible amount of detail. I used both HDR and focus stacking techniques on them. The left image is composed out of 25 shots (5 exposures x 5 foci), the right one out of 30 shots (5 exposures x 6 foci):

And finally I made some macro stereo shots with focus stacking (no HDR) of some crystals I had lying around. Those pictures were composed using around 7-15 shots for each eye. You will need red/cyan glasses to watch them properly:
